No, I'm not leaving or anything, but just a few hours ago, I found out that last night, Barry Letts died. He was eighty-four years old. For those who don't know, Barry Letts was the Producer of Doctor Who throughout the entire Jon Pertwee era, forming one half of a legendary Script Editing/Producing team with Terrance Dicks. He also directed and wrote several episodes, cast Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, was Executive Producer of the series in 1981, and was an extremely active contributor to DVD commentaries and documentaries. In short, there are few people who did as much for the series as him. Outside of Doctor Who, he had a long and prolific career, including acting, directing, and pretty much anything else. I found him to be a constant inspiration, but I didn't realise how much of an inspiration until now.

I know that sounds gushy and overly-formal, but I just wanted to say it. I had and will always have a great respect for him and everything he did. I sincerely hope that he, like the great Verity Lambert, gets a dedication in one of the new episodes. He's done more than enough to deserve it.
